Boil advisory issued for some residents in St. Mary Parish

ST. MARY PARISH – The St. Mary Parish Waterworks Dist. #5 Water System is issuing a boil advisory for its customers, effective immediately.
According to a spokesperson, the Water Treatment Plant lost electricity; therefore, pressure pumps were not running for a short duration, causing the system pressure to drop below the LA Department of Health requirements.
As a precaution, the St. Mary Parish water system is advising customers to boil their water for one full minute before consumption. This includes making ice, brushing teeth, consuming fountain beverages and using water for food preparation.
Here are some helpful tips:
Boil water for one full minute in a clean container. Time the one minute after the water has been brought to a full, rolling boil. The flat taste can be eliminated by shaking the water in a clean bottle, pouring it from a clean container to another, or by adding a small pinch of salt to each quart of water that is boiled.
This boil advisory is to remain in effect until rescinded by the Water System.
