Boil Advisory Put in Place in Chariton

CHARITON, Iowa — The city of Chariton is under a boil advisory after a water main break.

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources says the break cause a pressure loss in the system and water outages. Repairs will be done soon but because of a potential for bacterial contamination, the boil advisory was put in place.

All tap water being used for drinking or cooking should be boiled for at least one minute then allowed to cool before use. Tap water may still be used for bathing and doing laundry.

Tests will be conducted on the water once repairs are completed to determine when the boil advisory can be lifted.
