PORTAGE — The Indiana American Water Co. issued a boil order advisory Tuesday for 320 customers in the Portage area.

This boil order was issued as a precaution after a water main broke, and the water pressure dropped below 20 pounds per square inch.

The repairs to the water main have already been made, and water service has been restored. However, a boil order has been issued for the area.

“Customers in the affected area should bring their water to a rolling boil for three minutes before using water for drinking or cooking,” said Joe Loughmiller, external affairs manager for Indiana American Water.

The water is safe for bathing, washing, and other uses, he said.

Shadow Wood, Fairview Meadows and Sandalwood Estates were the neighborhoods affected by the main breakage. All of the houses in the area were alerted by the Indiana American Water Co. The boil order will be in effect for 24 hours from noon Tuesday to noon on Wednesday.
