Boil water advisory in effect for Macomb Twp.
A boil water advisory for residents and businesses on Macomb Township’s east side is in effect at least through Thursday, according to the township’s water superintendent.
The advisory is in response to a water main break on 23 Mile Road near North Avenue that was reported Tuesday.
About 180 homes and two businesses are impacted by the advisory, said Gerald Wangelin, the township’s water and sewer department superintendent.
The results take about 24 hours to process.
Water users are advised to bring water to a boil and let it boil for one minute before allowing to cool before using, or use bottled water.
Township officials have notified the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality concerning the advisory.
The samples will be collected to determine if the water quality meets state drinking water standards.
The water main break is about one mile from an excavation project initiated by police investigating possible bodies being buried in the area.
Wangelin said the break had nothing to do with the excavation.
