Boil water advisory in effect for some Greenport residents

GREENPORT – All Greenport residents in the area of Route 9 and Kipps Mobile Home Park must boil and conserve water until further notice.
Emergency personnel responded to a major water main break at 329 Fairview Ave. in front of Furniture Plus in the town Tuesday, according to a statement from the town clerk.
Officials with the Greenport Water Department noted high water usage and decreasing water levels and capacity, according to the town.
Residents, including several residents of the Kipps Mobile Home Park called the town reporting low water pressure, according to the town’s statement.
Crews fixed the water main break Tuesday.
Residents must boil water for drinking, making ice, washing dishes, brushing teeth and preparing food and infant formula until further notice, according to the town.
Bring tap water to a rolling boil, boil for one minute and cool before using, or use bottled water certified for sale by the state Department of Health.
Limit showers and baths.
Do only full loads of laundry.
Be sure to check the water that goes into the wash tub prior to putting clothes in.
