Boil water alert issued for part of West Bloomfield

West Bloomfield Township officials have issued a boil water alert for part of the community because of a broken water main.
The area affected is located east of Hiller Road and north of Greer Road, they said.
They also said the advisory should be lifted by Friday evening.
A problem with a 16-inch water main located along Greer Road Tuesday prompted township officials to issue the advisory.
The township said Wednesday the water main has been repaired and service returned, but they urge residents and businesses in the affected area to continue boiling water before it’s consumed.
Experts say before consuming tap water in areas affected by low water pressure, the water should be boiled for one minute and cooled before being used.
Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms in the water.
Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes and food preparation until further notice.
