UPDATE: The boil water notice was lifted Friday morning.

Original story below.

MILWAUKIE, Ore. – The city of Milwaukie issued a boil water notice for all water customers on Thursday after samples tested positive for E. coli and total chloroform bacteria.

The samples were taken at the start of city’s connection to the Portland water supply, according to a post on the city’s website.

A boil water notice is not in effect for Portland water customers.

Residents are asked to boil water for one minute before using it.

Results from a follow-up test are expected Friday afternoon. The city will release an update once it receives the results.

The city is investigating the cause of the contamination.

E. coli can cause diarrhea, cramps, nausea, headaches, or other symptoms. Anyone who has any of those symptoms should talk to their health care provider.
