Breaking: City crews finish repair; boil advisory still in effect

Almost immediately after the break was announced by Milledgeville City Manager Barry Jarrett to reporters and others attending a city council work session, a boil water advisory was issued for city water customers in the western portion of the city.
The boil water advisory is for city water customers who live in the areas of Georgia College’s West Campus, the Allenwood subdivision, Magnolia Park Apartments, and residents who live along Georgia Highway 49 who receive their water from the city.
City officials are anticipating the advisory to remain in effect for two days.
Kevin Veal, city water and sewer maintenance superintendent, said the break happened about 4:55 p.m. and that it only took about 30 minutes for workers to learn the location.
It was located on Blandy Road, directly behind Georgia College’s West Campus.
The break was somewhat easy to find as it turned out, because water was shooting a good ways into the air, along the shoulder of the road in a wooded area directly across from the turnoff of Blandy Road to access Georgia College’s West Campus.
A pump was used to extract water from a hole that was dug so workers could begin the process of repairing the broken water main line.
Shortly before 8 p.m. workers had made the necessary repairs on the water main break, Veal said.
He added he could not pinpoint what might have caused the water main break.
“There’s no certain reason.
