The city of Carterville has issued a mandatory boil advisory after a mechanical malfunction with the water system.
This morning, the pump motor in the water system stopped working properly, which led to a system wide pressure loss.
The city turned on a secondary source, so customers could still have water.
The Carterville pump has since been turned back on, but samples are being collected to make sure the water is safe.
So, people in the city are asked to boil their water until further notice.
The city leaders say they are working as quickly as possible to fix the issue.
