Boil-water advisory in New Sewickley
NEW SEWICKLEY TWP.
— A boil-water advisory is in effect until further notice for New Sewickley Township residents.
Crews from the New Sewickley Township Municipal Authority finished repairing an 8-inch water main break along Harvey Run Road on Tuesday morning, but officials said residents will continue to be under the advisory.
The break, which occurred around 8 p.m. Monday, caused officials at the Freedom Area School District to call for a two-hour delay.
Classes resumed Tuesday, and bottled water was brought in for students.
The break occurred in the 1100 block of Harvey Run Road.
Municipal authority officials said pressure was being restored, and a water buffalo was being set up at the Pine Run fire station on Ninth Street Extension by mid-morning.
Town of Latta issues boil water notice
The Town of Latta has issued a boiled water notice for residents until further notice after an eight inch water main break, according to Interim Latta Administrator Jarett Taylor.
Taylor said this is the second time the water line has broken.
He added they notified the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) about the problem and were advised to issue a boil water advisory.
Taylor said the water line has been fixed, drained and flushed.
He added water samples will be sent to DHEC for testing.
Taylor expects the samples to be ok and at that time the advisory will be lifted.
A resident in Latta told us his neighborhood always has "tainted water."
He said town officials always give the same answer.
The resident questioned the quality of water and why the flat rate of about $81 a month is so high.
We’ll let you know when the advisory is lifted.

Water and sewerage professionals: We all need water
Professional certified water and sewerage operators make that happen and that’s why sometimes they feel under-appreciated.
"They say, man all you ever do is ride around.
"These people are the ones that are in the trenches at 12 o’ clock at night to make sure you have water turned back on for when you get up in the morning," said Curtis Davis Shreveport’s water and sewerage department.
"In their hands is the life, health and well being of every man, woman and child on your water and waste water system," said Robinson "We provide water not just for homes but for schools, hospitals and places like that.
They were here to learn.
And, we take it back through a 1,000 miles of sewer mains, back to two treatment facilities and then treat it to a point to where we can discharge it to the environment to a safe manner," said Featherson.
"It’s more work than it seems and people turn their taps on each morning and they never think about what it takes to get it there and there’s a lot of people that go through a lot of education and hard work to make that happen," said Menard.
These professionals do everything they can to keep your water clean and safe.
But if there’s a problem with a water line — and even the slightest risk of contamination — one certified water operator has some advice about boiling water to purify it: "There’s a difference between a boil advisory and a boil notice.
So if we have to go there and repair a main, we have to kill that line to repair that line, before we can put it back in service we go to a boil advisory for that section," said Robinson.
Boil water advisory issued for rural water district in Allen County
The advisory was issued because of a line break, resulting in a loss of pressure in the system.
Failure to maintain adequate pressure may result in a loss of chlorine residuals and bacterial contamination.
KDHE said those affected should follow the following tips until further notice: Boil water for one minute prior to drinking or food preparation; or use bottled water.
Dispose of ice cubes and do not use ice from a household automatic icemaker.
Disinfect dishes and other food contact surfaces by immersion for at least one minute in clean tap water that contains one teaspoon of unscented household bleach per gallon of water.
Water used for bathing does not generally need to be boiled.
Supervision of children is necessary while bathing so that water is not ingested.
Persons with cuts or severe rashes may wish to consult their physicians.
If you tap water appears dirty, flush the water lines by letting the water run until it clears.
The advisory will remain in effect until the conditions that placed the system at risk of bacterial contamination are resolved.
