Andover Borough lifts boil water advisory
A boil water advisory that had been in effect for select Andover Borough residents since Tuesday has been lifted.
A post on the Borough’s Facebook page early this afternoon stated that residents could resume their normal water usage after test results came back from the state lab.
Borough Clerk Beth Brothman said the overall process — which includes taking a water sample, sending it to a lab and receiving state approval to lift the advisory — is often a lengthy one, so it was not unusual for the advisory to remain for so long.
The advisory was put in place as a result of a water main break reported early Tuesday morning.
The break affected the area along Route 206 north of the Andover Borough Fire Department as well as portions of Lindley Court and Limecrest Road within the borough.

Mayor: Boil Water Order Result Of Accident
DUNKIRK — Last week’s boil water advisory for the city of Dunkirk was “a fluke of an accidental nature,” according to Mayor Willie Rosas.
Rosas said Tuesday at the Common Council meeting that he wanted to dispel rumors about the reason for the order.
It was an accident due to the contractor, they drilled a 9-inch hole into our pipe, one of the main pipes at the plant and that caused a very big leak at the plant, what was the root cause of the issue.
There were rumors that there was a faulty pipe that broke down and that’s not what happened, so I just want to clear that up,” he said.
… I think this could have been a disaster, but we took care of it pretty nicely and professionally.” Department of Public Works Director Randy Woodbury also recognized the water treatment workers who dealt with the issue as quickly as possible.
Rosas said a temporary fix of the line was made by the contractor and also thanked Hill Engineer Gus Maas for helping the city to monitor the situation and Paul Snyder at the County Health Department providing insight on the process.
The contractor knows a more permanent fix must eventually be made, but Rosas said it will not hold up the North Chautauqua County Water District project.
Rosas noted this was a county order and therefore their responsibility to inform the public.
Resolution 41, a proposed local law on the sale of city-owned property, was amended and tabled for a public hearing on April 17 at 5:20 p.m. before the council meeting.
Communications from the public were also approved with contingencies placed on the request from WNY Renegades 12U Girls Travel Softball for more specific dates in July to avoid other field conflicts and the request for a water service from Debbie Carapella for requirements of the department of public works, the town of residence and the city treasurer’s review.

The City of Shinnston has been undergoing a water line replacement project, according to City Manager AJ Hammond.
"The contractors are currently working very close to the old line, the proximity of the lines coupled with the heavy rain fall over the past few days have resulted in challenging working conditions.
This is a temporary issue, as the project should resolve many of the issues," Hammond said.
Shinnston water customers, from Enterprise into Shinnston, are under a boil water advisory until further notice.

Boil Water Update And More About Water Main Break
"The precautionary boil water advisory for all rural customers has been lifted by the Water Security Agency, so all water is safe to drink," stated Ron Fellner, Manager of the Weyburn Utility Board.
Last week’s water main break (which saw Weyburn and area residents without water for close to 12 hours) left some people wondering if anything could have been done differently by the city.
He added that nothing could have been done differently based on the condition of the pipes and they were lucky to be able to lift the water advisory for the city so quickly.
Almost one and a half meters of pipe broke shortly after one in the morning last Wednesday.

Due to the severity of the break and how frozen the ground was, it was necessary to shut off the water.
A decision they hoped to not have to make.
Fixing the broken pipe was a huge job that had to be done in a timely manner, as so many people relied on the water source.

"To have the water restored to the city within 12 hours is amazing," added Keshta.
