West Laurens High cancels Tuesday classes due to boil water advisory
DEXTER, Ga. — Students at West Laurens High School will have a longer holiday weekend now that classes are canceled Tuesday.
According to a news release from Associate Superintendent Ronda Hightower, the closing is due to a boil water advisory in Dexter, Georgia.
While students will have the day off, the high school’s faculty and staff are still expected to report for a regular workday.
Again, this is ONLY for West Laurens High School.
All other Laurens County Schools will be in session on Jan. 22 and operating on a regular schedule.
Fort Lauderdale’s Isle of Venice Under Precautionary Boil Water Notice
City of Fort Lauderdale The City of Fort Lauderdale has issued a precautionary boil water notice on the Isle of Venice.
The notice was issued after emergency water infrastructure repairs.
"This ‘Precautionary Boil Water Notice’ will remain in effect until bacteriological surveys show that the water is safe to drink," officials said in a statement.
"Residents are advised that all water used for drinking, cooking, making ice, brushing teeth, or washing dishes be boiled.
A rolling boil of one minute is sufficient.
As an alternative, bottled water may be used."
Cold temperatures cause water main breaks
KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — The cold has resulted in a pair of water main breaks on major streets in Kalamazoo.
The first occurred on Burdick Street between Lake Street and Stockbridge Avenue that has closed the street to traffic until repairs are made.
The second and more significant break occurred under one of the west bound lanes of West Main in the block just east of Drake Road.
A boil water advisory has been issued for the north side of West Main from Drake to Piccadilly, including the Penn Station Subs, the Coney Island, and the offices of a tax preparer and a State Farm Agent.
It could be Tuesday or Wednesday before they get test results back.
Water main break closes Harrisburg street, prompts boil-water advisory for several properties
Crews are on the scene Sunday afternoon repairing a water main break in downtown Harrisburg.
The water main break occurred on Aberdeen Street between Market and Walnut streets near the Capitol, closing that block.
Crews have already dug a small hole into the road and are repairing the break.
Capital Region Water issued a boil water advisory to three properties – 400 Market St., 417 Walnut St. and 423 Walnut St. over the loss of positive water pressure from exercising valves to repair the break.
Capital Region Water will let the customers know when the advisory has been lifted.
Blackburn community left without heat and water
(FROM CBC) More than 530 homes had their gas cut off on Friday in Blackburn and Innes Park.
These homes had their gas line damaged after overnight work and were put on a precautionary boil water advisory.
During this time, temperatures dipped down below minus 20, leaving residents without heat and water.
The advisory was lifted Sunday afternoon and all but one home has had their heat and water restored.
(FROM CTV) The Raptor Rescue Society found six dead bald eagles on Vancouver Island and have six more in their care after being poisoned.
The society first found two birds on Wednesday, and the remainder on Saturday.
They will return to the area where they found the birds to locate the source of the poison and have reached out to Facebook for anyone in the area to help find more of the eagles.

Ruptured pipe cuts water to homes in Rotterdam
ROTTERDAM – A broken water main has cut municipal water service to several homes in town, police said.
Repair crews were at the intersection of Clement Road and Edith Lane Sunday evening.
Edith Lane was closed and Clement Road was closed between Argo Boulevard and Careleon Road.
Police said the Water Department reports that between 15 and 20 homes were without water during the repairs.
So far, no boil water advisory has been issued.
Blanchester water break repaired, but residents still under boil advisory
CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -The Village of Blanchester now have water, but will still be under boil advisory.
It was reported by the Village of Blanchester Water Department earlier that the people of Blanchester were without water due to a main line break.
“Per the BPA update, the water break has been repaired and the main water supply will be slowly turned back on to prevent additional water breaks, we have been advised to continue the water boil advisory until further notification which is expected to be mid Monday," said the Village of Blanchester on their Facebook page.
"We wish to thank the residents for their patience and understanding!”
UPDATE: Water is coming on soon in Port Barre; pressure will be low
UPDATE: The water will be back on soon in the town of Port Barre.
The broken pipe has been fixed and the water tower is being filled.
It will be quite a while before the pressure is restored to normal as everyone will be using the water, officials say.
The entire town is under a boil advisory until water samples can be tested and cleared.
That will probably be Tuesday or Wednesday, officials say.
ORIGINAL STORY posted yesterday: The water is being shut off in the Town of Port Barre because of a fire hydrant break.
According to the town’s clerk of court, the water will be off for an undetermined amount of time.
Once the pressure is fully restored, the town will be under a mandatory boil advisory for cautionary measures.
This also affects customers of Waterworks District #3.
Village of Hancock mayor declares state of emergency, road closures after water main break
VILLAGE OF HANCOCK (WBNG) — The Mayor of the Village of Hancock announced a state of emergency and road closures Sunday after a water main break.
The Mayor’s Office says West Main Street between Leonard Street and the West Front Street extension are closed due to a water main break as well as road conditions.
12 News spoke to Hancock Mayor Eugene Morgan on the scene.
He said the situation began around 11:30 a.m. Sunday morning.
As of Sunday evening, crews were still working to pinpoint the cause of the break and resolve it.
A large section of pavement on East Maine Road has been torn up and remains closed off due to safety concerns.
Morgan estimated that between 50 and 60 homes and businesses are without water.
He says he does not know when it will return.
A boil water advisory has been put into effect for the time being.
Boil advisory for the city of Garrison
GARRISON, Iowa — A boil advisory has been issued for the city of Garrison, Iowa in Benton County.
A water main broke in town early Sunday morning, crews are working to fix it right now.
The water department is recommending that customers in this area boil tap water before drinking it or using it for cooking, or use an alternative source, until the advisory is lifted.
