Milford under boil water order

MILFORD, Ind.
(WANE) A boil water advisory is in place in the town of Milford.
An alert Wednesday said that a “communication error” between the well and town’s water tower resulted in low water levels.
The alert said the issue had been resolved but as a measure of community safety, a water boil order was still initiated.
The order will remain in effect until Friday, the town said.

New Orleans’ water pressure is recovering, but ‘occasional fluctuations’ possible: S&WB

New Orleans’ water system on the east bank is steadily recovering pressure following a cold snap last week that prompted a boil-water advisory, according to a news release circulated Sunday afternoon (Jan. 21) by Mayor Mitch Landrieu’s office.
But the mayor’s office says Sewerage & Water Board customers could continue to see "occasional fluctuations" in water pressure as normal activities mostly resume throughout the city Monday.
New Orleans was among numerous cities and parishes in Louisiana whose water systems were slapped last week by an arctic cold front, which the Louisiana Department of Health said had prompted 84 boil advisories throughout the state by Friday afternoon.
A precautionary boil-water advisory issued last Wednesday night for New Orleans East was expanded to include the entire east bank Thursday morning, as officials said leaks from burst pipes and heavy faucet use caused water pressure to plummet to unsafe levels.
By Friday night, the boil advisory was lifted for the east bank except for New Orleans East, which remained under an advisory until Saturday evening.
But city and utility officials still urged residents and businesses to "dramatically limit" water use over the weekend despite the lifted advisory, since spiking customer use and ongoing leaks continued to cause problems for pressure levels.
In Sunday’s news release, the mayor’s office said customer restraint and leak fixes had allowed pressure to rise.
Joe Sensebe, the utility’s interim manager, said Thursday that pressure levels in the city’s water system began falling Wednesday around 3:30 p.m., under strain from leaks caused by burst frozen pipes and heavy customer faucet use.
10 logged a pressure drop below the safety threshold of 15 pounds per square inch, prompting a boil advisory for New Orleans East.
The early Wednesday morning temperature at New Orleans Lakefront Airport reached a record low of 27 degrees Fahrenheit, according to the National Weather Service.

Residents experience brown water issue, no boil water advisory in effect

JOHNSTOWN- Residents in the local area including Cambria City, Prospect, Lower Yoder and East Conemaugh have experienced brown water coming from their faucets since Sunday.
Greater Johnstown Water Authority Manager Michael Kerr said there is no boil water advisory at this time.
Kerr said the brown water is a result of having to pump more water to keep storage tanks full.
He said they are doing this in order to keep up with the leaks that are occurring due to the extreme temperature fluctuations.
Kerr added the Water Authority is in the process of fixing the issue.

All boil water advisories lifted; Orleans Parish asked to conserve water

Boil water advisories continue to be lifted across southeast Louisiana Sunday.
Terrebonne Parish was the last area still under a boil water advisory, and as of 6:30 p.m. Sunday, the advisory has been lifted.
The advisory for Edgard, Reserve and Garyville in St. John Parish was lifted this morning.
Lafourche Parish advisories were also lifted.
While the boil water advisory was lifted for New Orleans areas yesterday, the Sewerage and Water Board is still strongly urging residents to limit their water use in Orleans Parish.
Officials said limiting water use will avoid adding strain to the system as water pressure rises.

PWSA lifts water boil advisory in Lawrenceville

The Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority has lifted its flush-and-boil-water advisory for about 900 households in the Lawrenceville area.
The PWSA made the announcement around 3 p.m. Sunday.
On Friday, it issued an advisory that said a series of blocks had been affected.
The area was bordered roughly by Woolslayer Way to the south, 44th and 46th streets to the east, Davison Street to the northwest and 40th and 39th streets to the southwest.
The alert stemmed from a burst in a six-inch water main on Penn Avenue between 39th and 45th streets, PWSA said.
The break led the authority to drain a 20-inch water main, causing low water pressure on that stretch of Penn and some adjacent streets, according to PWSA.
Although workers repaired the break and restored water pressure, the authority said, a decrease in pressure can allow contaminants to enter the water.
Workers tested to confirm disinfectant levels and to make sure the water is safe to consume without boiling.

Boil water advisories lifted in Lafourche, Terrebonne

Officials have lifted boil water advisories issued last week for parts of Lafourche and Terrebonne parishes.
Lafourche Parish Water District No.
1 issued an advisory Wednesday, and Terrebonne Parish Consolidated Waterworks District No.
1 followed suit Thursday.
As a precaution, the state Department of Health and Hospitals tested samples.
People throughout the two parishes experienced low to no water pressure in the latter part of the week.
1, said the drop in water pressure probably resulted from too many people running water to try to keep their pipes from freezing.
“We’re steadily getting close to normal, and everybody should be able to pretty much go back to normal usage.” The advisories affected areas throughout Lafourche and the southern parts of Terrebonne.

Boil water advisory issued in Kalamazoo’s Milwood neighborhood

KALAMAZOO, MI — A precautionary advisory is being issued for municipal drinking water customers living in an area in the Milwood neighborhood.
The city of Kalamazoo’s Department of Public Services announced Sunday, Jan. 21 that a water main break on Portage Street between Roseland Avenue and Homecrest Avenue resulted in a temporary loss of pressure.
All water intended for drinking within the affected area should be boiled due to a temporary pressure loss that will occur within the water main during the repair.
This advisory is precautionary.
Initial sampling results will be available within 24 hours and the final set within 48 hours, according to a press release.
The city expects the advisory will be lifted within 72 hours.
A boil water advisory warns residents their drinking water may be contaminated.
When a break occurs in a water main, or a complete loss of pressure in a significant part of the water system, there is the possibility for contaminants to enter into the water main while the repair is being completed.
Once an advisory or notice has been lifted, residents should flush out all plumbing lines and fixtures with running water and replace all water filters.
