Boil Water Continues in Kitimat; Water Crisis Over in Witset/Moricetown
The boil water advisory continues in Kitimat, where turbidity remains a problem, thanks to last week’s heavy rains.. and residents are all urged to boil their water before consuming it.
However, for Witset-Moricetown, the water system is back to normal operations.
Last week’s heavy rains and the resulting flooding of the Bulkley River at Two Mile had overwhelmed the community water system, filling it with mud and debris, and resulting in the system being shut down.
Moricetown Band Executive Director Lucy Gagnon says crews managed to clean out the system and by Sunday, the Treatment Plant had the Community Reservoir back up to 60 per cent.
She says although the crisis is over, people should still be careful with their water usage.
"You don’t want to waste water because the system is still playing catchup because we have huge tanks, but it’s good — we just ask people to be diligent, don’t waste," she said.
Gagnon says overall, village residents were very cooperative during the water emergency, which meant there was still water available for fire fighting, had the need arisen.

Water crisis 2017: Cities step up in wake of emergency
That’s the amount of water that Novi, Farmington Hills, Bloomfield Township and other communities were distributing to their residents up to a period of seven days following a massive 48-inch water main break that affected more than 300,000 residents throughout Oakland County.
The lines lit up right away.” Farmington Hills, one of the hardest-hit cities from the water main break, went into emergency mode Oct. 20 after an alert went out that a transmission line broke around 14 Mile Road, between Haggerty and Farmington roads.
We then started getting calls right way about people getting low water pressure in their home, so that initiated a massive response.” A fractured 48-inch line still in operation will release a tremendous amount of water.
By Oct. 23, 11 communities were notified to put their residents on a mandatory boil water advisory.
"It was a team effort by everybody."
The boil alert in Farmington Hills extended seven days to all customers north of Interstate 696 – or about one-third of the community.
Mondora said the city was distributing about 1,300 cases of water per day from the Costick Center throughout the emergency.
“The repair was completed (Oct. 25),” Mondora said.
Johnson said CERT volunteers (Community Emergency Response Team) in Novi did a lot of the legwork, manning the distribution center and passing out the water.
West Bloomfield, for example, redirected the flow of water through its own network of pipes to provide drinking water through its local system to Commerce Township, Walled Lake and Novi, while making sure service to its community was maintained.
Montclair Officials: Water In Gas Mains; Boil Alert Still On
MONTCLAIR, NJ — A boil water advisory is still in effect for Montclair residents following a large water main break on Sunday evening and a weekend of stormy weather, township officials say.
But now there’s a new complication: water got into some of PSE&G’s gas mains and may impact heating for some local residents.
According to a Montclair township alert sent at 8:44 a.m. on Tuesday, repairs to the broken water main have been completed and water is being sampled at this time.
The results will take at least one day to complete, officials said.
"A boil water advisory is still in effect and notice will be sent as soon as the boil water advisory is lifted," Montclair officials said.

In addition to complications from the broken water main, PSE&G has notified the township that water was introduced into some of its gas mains, Montclair officials stated Tuesday.
PSE&G crews are in the process of dewatering gas mains on Central Avenue, James Street, Midland Avenue and Valley Road, officials said.
The PSEG issue may affect heating for residents of the above streets, officials said.
"It is expected that PSE&G will have all necessary work completed by late Friday evening," officials added.
Residents reminded to follow steps after boil water advisory lifted in most of Oakland County
