Crews repairing major waterline break on Corner Brook’s west side

Burden, the city’s director of public works, water and wastewater, said the feeder line that broke on Wellington Street, near the intersections with Valley Road, at around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday supplies water to a large portion of the west side.
Once the feeder is repaired the other lines can be put back in service.
But getting that feeder repaired is the priority.
Complicating matters a little bit is that not long after the main feeder line break happened on Wellington Street another break occurred in the line on upper Valley Road just above the intersection with Mount Batten Road.
Burden said when the area around Wellington Street was first dug up crews realized that the water wasn’t stopping even with the valves shut off and that’s how the other break was discovered.
He said it’s not unusual to have two breaks occur like that with the old infrastructure that is present in the area.
On Tuesday night the city issued an advisory of a water outage affecting a portion of the west side served by the feeder line.
With issues with pressure affecting the use of washrooms and the boil order nearby C.C. Loughlin Elementary began informing parents at just after 10 a.m. that it would closing for the day.

A boil water order issued for Hollywood residents Friday is now expanding to include parts of Davie.
The alert was issued Wednesday after a contractor ruptured a water main, causing water pressure to drop in the county’s North Water System.
Water sampling results confirmed that the water is safe to drink, authorities said, so customers in the affected areas no longer have to boil their water before consumption.
People who live nearby told Local 10 News reporter Erica Rakow that they are without water because of the water main break.
The break took place at Johnson Street and 19th Avenue around 8 a.m. Friday.
"Well they’re working right now to fix the break and then we’ll have to do water sampling and testing to make sure that the water is safe for people to consume regularly again", Hollywood spokesperson Raelin Storey said.
"As he’s coming down – we going to the gas station – when we get right here, the truck started to pull backwards, so he’s like, ‘Oh snap, ‘" a Waste Pro employee said.
