UPDATE: Boil water advisory in New Orleans canceled
NEW ORLEANS — The boil water advisory for all areas east of Franklin Avenue in New Orleans has been lifted.
The Seweraged and Water Board made the announcement just after noon on Sunday.
The precautionary boil water advisory went into effect around 8:30 a.m. Saturday after a voltage spike at the Carrollton Water Plant caused a loss of power to the water distribution system, causing a temporary loss of water pressure.

COLUMN: My relationship with water
When I found out about the boil water notice, I had just drank about half of my water bottle full of Prince Rupert tap water.
At first I was concerned.
I’m still haunted by my date with beaver fever in Nepal, and many other pleasantries that are often a traveller’s right of passage in many parts of the world.
However, there are millions of people around the world, including First Nations in Canada, who don’t have access to that right.
It has been over a decade since Prince Rupert has experienced a short-term advisory or notice on its water.
The local nurse told me that it was because my skin wasn’t used to their water.
We had an E. coli contamination in the water there, and the taps were shut right off.
My boss at the time didn’t want to risk boiling water, so everything came from a treated water jug.
Once again, the boil water notice came and went.
This boil water notice is just a blip in the system to remind us of how great we have it here, when the water is clean.
Austin Closes Barton Springs Pool Due To Cloudy Water
AUSTIN, TEXAS — Parks officials abruptly closed the Barton Springs Pool on Wednesday after a "unusual" level of turbidity was detected in the water.
One theory being floated is that the excess turbidity could be the result of a series of heavy rainstorms this month, but that has not been confirmed.
It’s also unclear if the high turbidity is related to lingering effects of Austin-area historic flooding that took place in October.
While the city’s drinking supply never developed bacteria as a result, the potential threat was cited as a possibility in convincing residents to cut down their water usage to allow for maintenance of water plants deluged with higher-than-normal water levels that frustrated water filtration efforts.
Parks & Rec officials provided no further details.
Located at Zilker Park, 2131 William Barton Dr., Barton Springs Pool is an outdoor swimming pool with a maximum depth of 18 feet is filled entirely with water from nearby natural springs.
The pool exists within the channel of Barton Creek and utilizes water from Main Barton Spring, the fourth largest spring in Texas.
Popular year-round, the pool is usually open to the public from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. Map data ©2018 GoogleMap data ©2018 GoogleTerms of Use Sign in Sign in to see a Google map built for you.

Boil water advisory issued for Upper Leacock Township
A boil water advisory was issued Thursday afternoon for residents of Upper Leacock Township.
The township said in a notice on its website that residents should not drink water without boiling it first.
"We will notify you when the water is safe to drink," the notice, published at 2:15 p.m., said.
The township did not say why the boil water advisory was issued.
The notice included boiling instructions: "Bring all water to a boil, let it boil for one minute, and let it cool before using, or use bottled water.
"Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes and food preparation until futher notice.
"Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms in the water."
Boil water advisory for parts of Hull lifted
The city of Gatineau has lifted the boil water advisory that was imposed earlier this week after a water main break on Alexandre-Taché Boulevard.
In a media release Thursday, the city said analyses and tests confirm that the water is safe to consume.
Affected residents should open all taps and let the water run for one minute or until it runs cold before using it.
This also applies to water fountains, and any ice made from tap water during the advisory should be discarded.
Gatineau Mayor Maxime Pedneaud-Jobin said in a radio interview Tuesday evening the city should have the roadway repaired by Friday at the latest.
The mayor said the break was another warning that Gatineau, like most municipalities in Canada, needs “urgent” action to make up for “40 years of neglect to infrastructure (in Gatineau and) Quebec and Canada.
“(Infrastructure systems need about) $1.3 billion of catch-up, just for Gatineau.
This is not just theory.
These are broken and aging infrastructures,” the mayor said.
The mayor said there was no construction at the site that might have caused the break, and that pipeworks in the area are “not particularly old.”

Garden City Boil Water Advisory lifted following outage
GARDEN CITY, GA (WTOC) – Garden City has lifted a boil water advisory that was put in place as a precautionary measure after the city experienced a water outage Thursday morning.
The city advised residents living in the area bounded by Dean Forest Road, Augusta Road, US Highway 80 east of the Norfolk Southern Rail Yard and Main Street need to boil water before drinking it or using it for cooking.
They say an equipment malfunction at the Garden City water system caused the outage.
Why the equipment malfunctioned is still under investigation.
“I go to wash my hands and there is no water coming out, so I’m like okay, that’s weird.
I check the bathtub nothing.
I check the kitchen, nothing,” said Garden City resident, Lakesha Leach.
Leach then checked her next door app and saw that she wasn’t alone.
“It threw us off track, because we had already started using the water, which I’m sure a lot of people had.
It sickens me, because I don’t know what’s going on, what’s in that water, or in my system at this time because of that," she said.

Thousands of residents in the Hull sector of Gatineau will be able to drink the water out of their taps again after the City of Gatineau lifted a boil-water advisory that had been in place for more than two days.
Around 24,500 residences were under the boil-water advisory after a major water main break on boulevard Alexandre-Taché.
Eleven homes were flooded and two had to be evacuated because of the break that happened Monday evening.
Several schools were also closed Tuesday.
The samples now meet drinking water standards, the city wrote in a release.
Residents are still advised to open up all cold water taps and run the water for around one minute before using it.
The water in any outside taps and hoses should also be emptied.
