Boil water advisory in place for Endicott, Endwell and West Corners
.
(WBNG) — There is a boil water advisory in effect for the village of Endicott, as well as parts of Endwell and West Corners.
According to a post on the Village of Endicott Facebook page, a water main break on South Street caused those in affected areas to lose pressure. The chance of harmful microbes being present in water increases when mains and distribution pipes lose pressure, the post explains.
The village says work is being done to repair the main and will issue another alert when the water is safe to drink.
Residents are advised to bring any water to a boil and let it sit for at least a minute before using it for drinking, using in food preparation, making ice, brushing teeth and washing dishes. Boiling kills most bacteria and organisms in the water.
Harmful bacteria in drinking water is known to cause diarrhea, cramps, nausea and other symptoms. Anyone who experiences these symptoms are advised to seek medical help immediately.
Boil water advisory rescinded for the city of Mayetta
.
MAYETTA, Kan. (KSNT) – A boil water advisory issued to the city of Mayetta on Thursday has been lifted by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment.
Testing agencies in charge of analyzing water samples said new test results indicate the water is safe and was not contaminated.
The advisory was originally issued when repairs to a valve caused a loss in pressure, which had the potential to contaminate the water with bacteria.

New Orleans boil water advisories: There have been a dozen since 2010
.
The latest boil water advisory for New Orleans marks the 12th time in the past seven years that the city has urged residents, businesses and visitors not to drink from its municipal water supply. Those with compromised immune systems and infants are advised not to bathe or brush their teeth until officials can rule out contamination.
The advisory from Wednesday morning (Sept. 20) applies to the east bank and was issued after a "power fluctuation" at the Sewerage & Water Board’s Carrollton plant led to a drop in water pressure. Constant pressure in the water lines, at least 15 pounds per square inch, is critical in order to prevent potentially contaminated groundwater from seeping through cracks in the aging system.
Officials say contamination has never been detected as a result of the malfunctions reported since 2010, but the frequency of boil water advisories — along with ongoing drainage issues – reveals a highly susceptible system.
What follows is a chronicle of past problems that have led to boil water advisories — localized and major — and how long before the public was given the all-clear. Also included are instances when the power supply for the Sewerage & Water Board was compromised but public health advisories were not issued.
The Sewerage & Water Board’s Carrollton power plant was shut down, dropping water pressure.
Residents grow tired of ongoing Sewerage and Water Board issues
.
City officials blamed this week’s boil-water advisory for the east bank of New Orleans on a turbine that failed, one of several issues with the Sewerage and Water Board.
Some residents are growing tired of the issues with the city’s pumping and drainage system.
"I just want to know what’s going on with the Sewerage and Water Board," said Lejohn Richburg, who owns the Mr. Everything Cafe in Mid-City. "One thing after another. I just don’t understand why they can’t get it together."
Repairs and work to the Sewerage and Water Board system continue.
For the Sewerage & Water Board, 2017 has been a year of boil and trouble
All turbine generators that produced the S&WB’s unusual 25 hertz electricity — which runs many of the city’s largest drainage pumps — were down.
Water filled the streets in Mid-City, Lakeview and other flood-prone neighborhoods. Pumping Station No.
Eventually that number grew to 17 pumps, a combination of large drainage pumps and smaller constant-duty pumps meant to manage groundwater that seeps into canals.
A telling moment came when Becker, in front of city lawmakers, admitted several pumping stations weren’t operating at their full advertised capacity.
Turbine 3 had been down since May. Turbine 5 lost power in July.
That left the Sewerage & Water Board with only one turbine, an emergency backup turbine known as Turbine 6, operating at the plant.
Landrieu declared a state of emergency on Aug. 10 for the Sewerage & Water Board.

MAYETTA, Kan. (KSNT)– People in the city of Mayetta are under a boil advisory since before 11 Thursday morning.
Cori Jager has never been under a boil advisory before.
“I actually didn’t even think about brushing my teeth and then I thought, ‘oh,’” she said.
He said they have sent a water test to the Kansas Department of Health and Environment and hope to lift the advisory by tomorrow afternoon.
Dispose of ice cubes and do not use ice from a household automatic ice maker.
Disinfect dishes and other food contact surfaces by immersion for at least one minute in clean tap water that contains one teaspoon of unscented household bleach per gallon of water.
Water used for bathing generally does not need to be boiled. Supervision of children is necessary while bathing so that water is not ingested.

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) issued the advisory Thursday because of repairs to a valve caused a loss of pressure in the system that could result in a loss of chlorine residuals and bacterial contamination.

Boil water advisory lifted for Swansboro
.
SWANSBORO, NC (WITN) Another town in the east was under a boil water advisory in less than a week, which impacted businesses and residents.
Last Friday Atlantic Beach issued a boil water advisory. That forced restaurants to close until the all clear was given a day later.
Wednesday the town of Swansboro in Onslow County experienced the same thing after a contractor for Walmart hit one of their water lines and broke it.
Restaurants in Swansboro told us inspectors recommended they close as well. They were able to open on Thursday when the advisory was lifted.
While such advisories can be inconvenient, Onslow Water and Sewer Authority CEO Jeffrey Hudson says proper precautions are critical.
Hudson says, "Anytime the pressure in the system, which is constantly pressurized, anytime that pressure reduces there is some minute chance that water might enter at the point of the break."
Boil water advisory for Pender County lifted
.
The boil water and low pressure advisory issued on Sept. 20 for customers in central and western areas of Pender County has been lifted.
“Bacteriological analysis results of drinking water samples collected yesterday from this water system show no coliform bacteria present,” said Bryan McCabe, interim public utilities director.
Water service will be returned to customers as soon as possible upon completion of the repair work.
Several Pender County schools were released early Wednesday in response to the ruptured water main. All afterschool activities, including sports and afterschool care, were also canceled.
