Quimby, Iowa under a boil advisory

Quimby, Iowa under a boil advisory.
QUIMBY, Iowa (KTIV) – The city of Quimby is under a boil advisory due to a problem with the distribution system.
The city is recommending that all water be boiled before using for drinking or cooking due to the potential for bacterial contamination.
After the repairs are made the system will be repressurized and bacteria samples will be collected.
This advisory is a precaution until bacterial sample results are available.
The city says residents should bring all water to a boil, let it boil for one minute, and let it cool before using, or use bottled water.
Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms in the water.
The water may be used for bathing and other similar purposes.

General guidelines on ways to lessen the risk of infection by microbes are available from the EPA Safe Drinking Water Hotline at 1(800) 426-4791.

Last boil water advisory lifted for Millersville area after 17 water main breaks in less than 2 weeks

Last boil water advisory lifted for Millersville area after 17 water main breaks in less than 2 weeks.
The last boil water advisory for residents of the Millersville area affected by more than a dozen water main breaks in less than two weeks has been lifted, Lancaster city’s public works department announced Friday.
A series of boil water advisories were issued off-and-on after the first water main break April 16, according to Charlotte Katzenmoyer, director of public works.
In all, there were 17 water main breaks, she said, and each break was repaired within a few hours.
She did not have a cost estimate Friday for the water main break repairs.
And while water mains were being fixed, others broke, prompting repeated boil water advisories in neighborhoods mostly in the Millersville area.
The city was in the design phase of a $10 million to $20 million plan to replace the 45 miles of concrete pipes serviced by the city’s water department with ductile iron ones when the mains began breaking April 16, Katzenmoyer said.
On Friday she said the design plans have shifted so that pipe replacement in the Millersville area can be begin "a lot sooner than other areas" with construction "hopefully … starting later this year."
Concrete pipes are located in over half of the 10 municipalities the City of Lancaster’s Bureau of Water services.
After an advisory is lifted, the water department recommends running the cold water foundation or faucet for two to three minutes, flushing automatic ice makers, draining and refilling hot water heaters set below 115 degrees and running water softener through a regeneration cycle.

VIDEO: Boil water advisory in Aspinwall extended to Friday

Per the borough’s website, the water "is now safe to drink".
Residents who live in the area reported brown water and low pressure on Wednesday.
The issue started overnight Tuesday, when the Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority conducted maintenance on a pump in its Aspinwall plant.
It caused water pressure to drop, which a PWSA spokesman said is linked to a pipe replacement project in Etna.
Aspinwall’s borough manager put the boil water advisory in place after learning of the issues just after 4 a.m. Wednesday.
“I bought a case of water for coffee and food preparation.
Other than that, we’re just going about our normal business,” Mike Piccardo, an Aspinwall resident, said.

Rotterdam boil water advisory issued

Rotterdam boil water advisory issued.
ROTTERDAM — Town residents should boil their drinking and cooking water, due to an equipment failure at the town water plant.
The Schenectady County Department of Environmental Health issued the boil-water order Thursday.
It will remain in effect for a day or two, until testing confirms there is no bacteria in the water.
Town Supervisor Steve Tommasone said the order is precautionary.
While a backup liquid chlorine system is being used to disinfect the water, Tommasone said that, because of the gas system’s failure, county and state health officials ordered the advisory while repairs were being made, Tommasone said.
"There are well over 20,000 (people) affected," Tommasone said.
Water to be used for drinking or cooking should be boiled for at least one minute.
The health department said boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes and all food preparation.
Tommasone acknowledged the order could be in effect for a couple of days, while the town waits for test results to come back.

Water boil advisory remains in effect

Water boil advisory remains in effect.
A water boil advisory remains in effect today for those impacted by a water main break covering a more than 6-mile stretch of Warrensville Road in Loyalsock Township, officials with the Williamsport Municipal Water Authority said Wednesday.
“Provided there are favorable tests of the water, the boil advisory could be lifted today,” he said.
Those affected will be notified by telephone and media will be alerted when the advisory is lifted, said Douglas Keith, authority executive director.
The impact area covered East Third Street north along the road and included the County 911 Center, two nursing homes and the county farm, Keith said Wednesday at the authority meeting.
The pipeline was installed 45 years ago and pressure caused the cast iron piece to break, he said.
The authority is providing a water buffalo (water storage) tank at Valley View Nursing Home and other locations for those who want fresh drinking and bathing water, he said.
Fulmer’s Water Hauling, of Williamsport, supplied three 5,600-gallon tankers of fresh water for the Valley View Complex and several buildings.
That’s more than 15,000 gallons of water, and it would continue until the boil advisory is lifted.
The business previously provided water for the area in July 2015 when the same water main broke and ruptured, according to Tom Fulmer, company president.

Shorewood boil and bottled drinking water advisory is canceled

Shorewood boil and bottled drinking water advisory is canceled.
The Village of Shorewood’s precautionary boil/bottled drinking water advisory is no longer in effect.
According to a press release, The DNR informed the Shorewood Water Works that drinking water samples drawn on April 25th, 2017 show no indication of bacterial contamination.
Shorewood Waterworks had an approximate 55% pressure loss in its water system due to Milwaukee Waterworks maintenance projects, according to the Shorewood Utilities press release.
Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources requires that two water samples are collected following a loss of water pressure.
Therefore, they recommend no one drink the water or use it for potable purposes until samples are confirmed safe.
It is advised to not leave any faucets open to avoid water flowing when it is turned on again.
Once water pressure returns it will spit air and run cloudy.
Water can be used for flushing and washing when it comes back on, but not for drinking.
Residents will be notified when water is once again safe to drink.
