Boil advisory issued for St. Ansgar

originally posted on January 30, 2017

ST. ANSGAR — A boil advisory was issued Monday for St. Ansgar due to a pressure loss to the town’s water tower.

A communication failure between the well and tower caused the tower to drain and created low water pressure throughout the system.

Officials discovered the issue late Saturday evening and turned on the pump to manually restore water to the tower.

Residents should boil water used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth or preparing food.

Boiling kills any bacteria and other organisms that may be in the water. The advisory will be lifted after two separate water samples taken 24 hours apart indicate the water is safe to drink.

Residents should bring water to a boil for one minute and let cool, or use bottled water.

Call the EPA Safe Drinking Water Hotline at 800-426-4791 for more information.

Boil advisory issued for some Brunswick Co. residents after water main break

originally posted on January 30, 2017

Officials with Brunswick County Public Utilities have issued a boil advisory for some residents following a water main rupture due to construction work.

According to officials, residents living near the Highway 211 corridor between Midway Road and Long Beach Road, including, but not limited to, St. James, The Regency, Arbor Creek, Abbington Oaks, and West Trace are experiencing low pressure and outages due to the break.

Periods of low or no pressure in the distribution system increases the potential for back siphonage and introduction of bacteria into the water system.

Therefore, Brunswick County Public Utilities and the Division of Water Resources advises that consumers boil all water used for human consumption (including drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes and food preparation) or use bottled water.

Vigorous boiling for one (1) minute should kill any disease-causing organisms that may be present in the water.
