Boil Advisory Issued for Some Bossier City Residents

by Erin McCarty, originally posted on October 30, 2016

Bossier leaders have issued a boil advisory for part of Bossier Parish that gets water from the city.

This advisory is for residents and businesses served by the City of Bossier water system north of Kingston Road along Airline Drive and east of Airline Drive along Swan Lake Road.

There has been a temporary disruption of water service in that area as a result of construction crews accidently damaging a water line Saturday night at the intersection of Airline Drive and Kingston Road.

This is a precautionary measure and residents are urged to boil water for one minute before consuming it until the advisory is rescinded. The advisory pertains only to water used for consumption.

This is an advisory and not a boil order.

OKC Water Update: Voluntary boil advisory issued for those affected by outage

by Jonathan Miller, originally posted on October 29, 2016

The City of Oklahoma City has issued a precautionary and voluntary boil advisory, at the recommendation of the Department of Environmental Quality, for those who had their water completely shut off when the water main broke.

Those whose water continued to flow at lower pressure are not included in the advisory.

Oklahoma City Water Department public information officer Debbie Ragan said the break occurred in a 72 inch main near SE 164th Street and Air Depot Blvd.

Water was diverted to a 48 inch line and residents affected by the break should be back to full water pressure.

Ragan reports some residents have seen their tap water discolored. If that is the case they are urged to let the water flow, and partake in the boil advisory if they wish.

There is no evidence that the quality of the water has been compromised.

“We have confidence our water is just as safe to drink as it has always been,” City Manager Jim Couch said. “But out of an abundance of caution, after consulting with DEQ, we think this voluntary advisory is appropriate while we continue to evaluate Saturday’s interruption.”

DEQ says the water should be boiled for a minute then cooled to room temperature. Anyone with skin wounds or other conditions may want to avoid bathing in the water.

A boil water order for Horton and Willis earlier this week has been lifted.

Mayor Tim Lentz said a 10-inch water main break occurred between Third and Fourth Avenue at 15th Street on Tuesday. He said the line that broke is the main one that feeds the water customers in both Horton and Willis, causing the boil water order, which was issued by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment.

The repairs caused a detour for traffic entering Horton on U.S. 73 Highway.

UPDATE: Boil Water Advisory over for Willis and Horton

TOPEKA, Kan. (KSNT) – The Kansas Department of Health and Environment has issued a boil water advisory for the cities of Maple Hill in Wabaunsee County as well as Horton and Willis in Brown County.

KDHE says the boil water advisories were issued in each city because of a water line break resulting in a loss of pressure in the system. KDHE says failure to maintain adequate pressure may result in a loss of chlorine residuals and bacterial contamination.

The advisories took place Tuesday and will remain in effect until conditions are deemed resolved by KDHE.

KSNT News will continue to follow this story and will update as additional information becomes available.

Boil water advisory issued for part of Kansas City, North

by Lynn Horsley, originally posted on September 20, 2016

Kansas City Water Services has issued a boil water advisory for part of Kansas City, North.

The department said residential and commercial customers in the area of Northwest 64th Street to Northwest 78th Street, and from North Congress Avenue to Northwest Waukomis Drive — excluding the cities of Platte Woods and Lake Waukomis — are advised to boil water because of a low-water-pressure event Tuesday.

A 12-inch water main broke at 4001 N.W. Bryan Ave., according to department spokeswoman Brooke Givens. Repairs are underway and water service has been restored, but Givens said a precautionary boil advisory was issued because of low water pressure. She said the water lab will take samples to ensure water quality and safety, and it will take 18 hours before the advisory can be canceled. An update is expected Wednesday morning.

Customers are advised to boil tap water vigorously for three minutes before using it for drinking, brushing teeth, cooking or preparing food. Ice made with unboiled tap water should not be used for drinking. The tap water is safe for other purposes such as bathing, but small children should be discouraged from swallowing that water.

Customers with questions or concerns may call Water Dispatch at 816-513-0416. More information about boil advisories is at www.kcwaterservices.org/boil.

Pipe damage prompts boil advisory

by Kathleen Clark, originally posted on September 21, 2016

SCOTTVILLE — Scottville Rural Water customers are under a boil-water order because of a damaged waterline.

Crews doing excavating work for the Dakota Access Pipeline inadvertently hit a main line Monday, causing customers to have no water pressure for about an hour.

“When I got there, they had everything ready for us to fix it with. It was an accident, just kind of inconvenient being right at suppertime,” said Larry Garst, the water plant manager.

The break occurred at the edge of an easement line near a creek and “the line had moved from where it had been marked,” he said.

Garst said the fix will be temporary, because that section of the pipe is scheduled to be replaced in the future to allow for safe water in the event of a spill from the pipeline. Dakota Access Pipeline owners are footing the bill on all of the line upgrades.

Garst is taking precautions by flushing the affected waterlines, but expects the boil order to be lifted by Friday.

Such orders are issued when it is advisable for people to boil their tap water for drinking and other consumption such as cooking, washing hands or brushing teeth. The preventative measures are to protect against any contamination that might have occurred to the water.

Water should be brought to a rolling boil for at least one minute and then allowed to cool before drinking. Once the order is lifted, customers should flush their water lines for several minutes before consuming tap water or using it for cooking.
