MOORESBURG, TN (WJHL)- A boil water advisory is in effect for the Mooresburg community in Hawkins County until Friday, following a major water line rupture that happened Tuesday night.
On Wednesday, Lakeview Utility District General Manager Tim Carwile told News Channel 11 that 300 to 500 gallons of water per minute began leaking out of the water system around 10 p.m. Tuesday, impacting around 700 customers.
Carwile said after evaluating data the flow rate of the water line rupture was recalculated to be around 800 to 900 gallons per minute.
He said the line was on the bottom of the pipe and said water flowed down into a cave.
Carwile said the total water loss was around 300,000 gallons, which never came to the surface.
Crews with the utility district installed valves to narrow down the location of the leak, which was found around 8:15 p.m. Wednesday.
The Persia Utility District also assisted Lakeview crews in finding and repairing the leak.

Residents in the Keswick community are being advised to boil their drinking water due to a leak in their water system to avoid any contamination.
Shasta County Public Works issued the boil advisory on Tuesday due to a leak in the main line serving the west Redding community of Keswick.
A lack of pressure means the water system may be vulnerable to microbiological contamination.
County water customers with questions can contact Public Works at 225-5571.
Residents need to bring their water to a rolling boil for at least one minute or they can disinfect their water by adding twelve drops of regular household bleach per gallon of water and allow the water to sit for 30 minutes before drinking it, according to Public Works.
They also recommend residents can try bottled water in the mean time.
The boil advisory will be in place until Friday, Sept. 2 at 5 p.m.

"Our high-series Super Duty trucks and all-new F-150 Raptor drove double-digit F-Series sales gains in March, along with the strongest year-over-year increase in transaction prices of any truck manufacturer in the industry," said Mark LaNeve, vice president for U.S. marketing, sales and service.
Truck sales improved 2.5 percent, to nearly 227,000 units — though demand for four of five truck models fell by more than 10 percent.

Boil water advisory imposed on Sunchild First Nation for 2nd time this year.
About 30 homes on the Sunchild First Nation are under a boil water advisory after leaks in the main water line caused the community’s reservoirs to drop.
Those that do have water are being told to boil it before using it.
Both ConocoPhillips and Shell, which have operations in the area, have been helping to refill the tanks and provide bottled water while officials work to repair the leaks, she said.
About 160 more homes on the reserve are not affected because they use their own wells and are not tied-in to the main water line.
First Nations water issues Sunchild First Nation was under an earlier boil water advisory in January due to a problem with chlorine levels.
Jen Essex, a teacher in the community, says it happens too often on First Nations reserves.
"If this happened in a town for example, I mean, it wouldn’t happen," said Essex.
"Water just wouldn’t get cut off.
I think people need to know that this happens, a lot more frequently than they’re probably aware of it."
