MOUNT VERNON — More than 350 Mount Vernon city residents were under a boil advisory this past weekend following a water valve break Friday evening.

City Utilities Director Mathias Orndorf reported that city employees were attempting to replace a hydrant on North Mulberry Street, just north of High Street, on Friday as part of the current sidewalk project when a 6-inch valve broke. Workers were unable to get the water shut off which continued to run throughout much of the weekend.

Boil water advisory, system presssure advisory for Burnsville

by Jennifer Saylor, originally posted on July 19, 2016

YANCEY COUNTY, N.C. — Burnsville residents are advised that the town is experiencing low pressure and outages today, and to boil their water when water is restored.

Water consumers of Town of Burnsville in Yancey County are experiencing periods of low pressure and outages in the distribution system due to a water line break at US Hwy 19E and George’s Fork Road.

Periods of low or no pressure in the distribution system increases the potential for back siphonage and introduction of bacteria into the water system.

Therefore the Division of Water Resources advises that when water is restored consumers boil all water used for human consumption (including drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes and food preparation) or use bottled water.

Vigorous boiling for one minute should kill any disease-causing organisms that may be present in the water.

The office strongly urges water consumers to conserve water whenever possible. This advisory remains in effect until further notification is issued.

Boil-water advisory issued for Palm Aire Village West neighborhood of Fort Lauderdale

originally posted on July 18, 2016

A precautionary boil-water notice has been issued for a Fort Lauderdale neighborhood following repairs that were made to a water service line.

The repairs of the water line located at 3140 Northwest 69th Street temporarily interrupted water service to a portion of the Palm Aire Village West neighborhood, city officials said Sunday. Water service has since been restored, but the city, in consultation with the health department in Broward County, issued a precautionary boil water notice.

The boundaries for the advisory are West McNab Road to the north; Northwest 31st Avenue to the east; Northwest 62nd Street/Cypress Creek Road to the south and Northwest 35th Avenue to the west.

Residents are advised that all water used for drinking, cooking, making ice, brushing teeth or washing dishes be boiled. A rolling boil of one minute is sufficient. As an alternative, bottled water may be used

The precautionary boil-water notice will be in effect until bacteriological surveys show that the water is safe to drink.

2 schools without water

2 schools without water.
Two Hammond schools were without water service Thursday and Friday because a water main break caused a loss of water pressure Thursday.
The water district issued a boil water advisory Thursday for River Road between U.S. 190 and Vineyard Road as well as adjacent roads.
The area includes Hammond High and Hammond Eastside magnet schools on River Road.
Hammond High Interim Principal Shelly Gaydos said water has been shut off during the advisory.
Superintendent Mark Kolwe said the same steps were being taken next door at Hammond Eastside.
Wendy Montalbano, compliance officer for the water district, said the break in the water main has been repaired, but the loss of water pressure could potentially introduce contaminates in the water supply for the designated area, so the advisory was issued.
Samples of water were collected Friday and sent to the Louisiana Department of Health lab for testing.
Montalbano expects the results will come in today.
In the meantime, the advisory remains in effect.

Neighborhoods in West Travis County advised to boil water

by Nadine Bonewitz, originally posted on July 16, 2016

AUSTIN (KXAN) — After high water demand caused water pressure to drop in the western portion of the West Travis County Public Utility Agency’s water service area, neighborhoods are being advised to boil their water.

The neighborhoods included in the boil water notice are: Lazy Nine MUD, Rough Hollow, Bella Colinas Subdivision, Rocky Creek Subdivision, Belvedere Subdivision, Madrone Ranch Subdivision, Deer Creek Ranch Subdivisions, and WTCPUA customers located along Hamilton Pool Road and West Highway 71 west of it’s intersection with Hamilton Pool Road.

Jennie Huerta, Media and Communications Manager for the City of Cedar Park, said the Deer Creek Ranch neighborhood under the boil water notice is not the subdivision with the same name in Cedar Park. That subdivision is under jurisdiction of the city’s municipal water utility system.

For safety, water in the affected areas should be boiled and cooled before drinking, cooking or making ice because the drop in pressure might have caused the water to become contaminated with harmful bacteria. The boil water notice will remain in place until WTCPUA determines that the water is safe to consume.

WTCPUA is also implementing Stage 2a drought restrictions immediately. Under the restrictions, watering is limited to twice a week.

Boil-water advisory issued in Horizon City

by Kristopher Rivera, originally posted on July 16, 2016

A boil-water advisory has been issued for Horizon City, according to the Horizon Regional Municipal Utility District.

The order is a public health advisory given to consumers when a community’s drinking water is, or could be, contaminated.

“We’re not aware of any contamination, but we’re trying to be safe, precautionary,” said Benny Davis, president of the board at the HRMUD.

At about 10 p.m. Friday, strong winds knocked down power lines and transformers that power the water purification system and sewage pumping system, Davis said. The loss of power at the water treatment plant caused depressurization at the potable water system.

“We decided we needed to put out a notice because we thought it might be necessary to satisfy the Texas Commission of Environmental Quality,” Davis said.

In a written notification to consumers, the HRMUD says to ensure destruction of all harmful bacteria and other microbes, water for drinking, cooking and making ice should be boiled and cooled prior to use. The water should be brought to a vigorous, rolling boil and then boiled for two minutes. Customers also can purchase bottled water or use water from another reliable source. Temporary discoloration of the water might occur as the system is pressurized. It urges residents to refrain from washing laundry as it might permanently stain clothing.

The boil-order advisory will be lifted in 24 hours — by 10 a.m. Sunday, Davis said.

“They’ll take tests and make sure there’s no problem,” Davis said. “We don’t think there’s any problems to start with. It’s to be on the safe side; that’s what we do.”

The water pumps were off for about 12 hours. Crews with the El Paso Electric Co. and the HRMUD restored services at about 10 a.m. Saturday, Davis said.

“Although we didn’t run out of water, we were down to almost nothing,” Davis said.

The HRMUD services about 10,000 residents in Horizon City.
