Because of this they’re asking for donations from the public including water, paper products, paper towels, plastic cutlery and pre-packaged and frozen food.
You can drop those off from 7 a.m. to 7p.m.

Boil water advisory lifted, some residents still won’t drink water

Boil water advisory lifted, some residents still won’t drink water.
A boil water advisory for customers in Chadbourn was lifted Tuesday morning, but some residents said they still won’t drink it.
One woman brought two bottles to the town council meeting Tuesday night, and said she was concerned about the water clarity and smell of chlorine.
Mayor Phillip Britt and Interim Town Manager Pat Garrell assured residents that the water was tested and was completely safe to drink.
Water service was interrupted when a water main broke during installation of new lines on Brown Street.
"Naturally you’re first thing is to be frustrated but the good thing is in the long run we’re gonna have the pipes replaced," Britt said.
"So naturally your initial response is gonna be frustration, but everyone is going to be so happy when it’s over, I think everyone was very understanding for the most part, I really do."
He added that it took longer to restore because there weren’t as many cut-off points as there should be, but that it’s something they’ve fixed.
Also once the line has been turned off, if those lines fill up with air, when the water comes behind it that’s what causes some of your breaks when your water comes back on," Britt said.
The project manager for water and sewer improvements says all the work on Brown Street could take up to 12 months.

A portion of Chadwicks has been placed under a boil water advisory by the Mohawk Valley Water Authority.

The advisory affects residents on Elm Street from number 9371 to number 9555; Brooks Lane; Church Street; Pear Street; Hamilton Street; Hamilton Place; and School Street.
The advisory will remain in effect for about 48 hours until laboratory testing confirms that it can be safely lifted.
Residents are advised to boil water for at least two minutes before drinking it or cooking with it until then.

Detroit lifts boil water advisory

Detroit lifts boil water advisory.
The Detroit Public Schools Community District closed 29 schools Friday as a precaution during the boil water alert that affected portions of Detroit, Hamtramck and Highland Park.
Testing revealed the water quality was not compromised when water pressure dropped Tuesday evening due to a glitch in a valve system at a Detroit water treatment plant.
Detroit City Council members on Friday blasted water officials for what they called an "unacceptable" and slow roll-out of information about the boil water advisory.
GLWA officials were at work by 5:07 p.m. to fix the issue and notify communities, including Detroit.
"We don’t issue (boil water alerts) for communities," McCormick said.
The GLWA recommended that an advisory be issued in Highland Park, Hamtramck, and portions of Detroit affected by the glitch, McCormick said.
"We needed to talk to GLWA" about the issue, he said.
"The difference with this incident (is) I can’t ever remember a boil water alert for the large area that we had (this week)."
No details were given Friday, but Brown touched on general ideas.

No excuses for boil water orders on First Nations reserves – Michael’s essay

No excuses for boil water orders on First Nations reserves – Michael’s essay.
In May of 2000, during a random test of the water supply in the farming town of Walkerton, Ontario, traces of e-coli were found in a shallow water supply well.
This was the result of cattle manure washing into the well.
People in the town started to get sick — with, ultimately, 3,500 residents falling ill.
A formal judicial inquiry was held to determine what had gone wrong with the system.
While all this was going on, thousands of men, women and children in Ontario and across the country were boiling their water for at least a minute because what came out of the tap was toxic, dangerous to drink.
In all of the complicated relationships and seemingly intractable problems between governments and First Nations peoples, clean water has to be one of the simplest to resolve.
Drinking water on reserves is a federal responsibility.
A year before, the number was 139 advisories in 94 communities.
In the 13 years between 1995 and 2008, the federal government, through Aboriginal Affairs, spent $3.5 billion.
