Another boil water advisory issued in the city
For the second time in a little more than a week city of Milledgeville water customers are under a boil water advisory following a water line break.
The advisory was issued by the Milledgeville water department Thursday just after 10 a.m. affecting Baldwin State Prison located on Laying Farm Road as well as the Kidd, Cook, and Education and Work Activities Center (EWAC) buildings on the CSH campus, according to a press release sent out by city officials.
Residents on Colony Farm Road that are city water customers are also advised to boil their water before consumption.
Veal said his department was first notified Wednesday around 8 p.m. that the area was experiencing low water pressure.
“Baldwin State Prison was the first to call,” he said.
“They were experiencing low water pressure.
… Ever since we got the call [Wednesday] evening it was just a process of elimination on finding out where it could be.” The source of the break was discovered Thursday morning just north of Riverbend Correctional Facility near a wooded area adjacent to the grounds.
Access was the biggest hurdle facing the repair workers as they had to park their work vehicles a couple hundred yards away and trudge across the wet ground, thanks to recent rain, in order to reach the break.
“It’s just the point of being able to get to it.
The advisory sent out by the city directs residents in the area to bring their water “to a vigorous, rolling boil and then boiled for two minutes” to ensure it is free of all harmful bacteria.
Glencoe boil water advisory lifted
The boil-water advisory for Glencoe residents was lifted after three days Monday afternoon, after two rounds of tests gave the all-clear to the water system in the small community southwest of London.
A Sunday night watermain break thrust Glencoe under a boil-water advisory that extended through Tuesday and Wednesday and required residents to bring tap water to a rapid boil before drinking or washing food or dishes.
The cracked pipe gushed water down a residential street in Glencoe Sunday night, what Southwest Middlesex Mayor Vance Blackmore described as a “water park.” It brought with it the threat of contamination because a backflow of groundwater could have entered the system.
The boil-water advisory, announced by the health unit early Monday morning, was a precautionary move.
Health inspectors suggested there was no need for public panic for those who drank a sip before hearing of the restriction on Monday, noting there was enough residual chlorine in the system to kill any harmful bacteria.
