Glencoe under boil water advisory following water main break
Glencoe is under a boil water advisory after contaminated water may have entered the system Sunday evening.
“This boil water advisory is being issued as a precaution until we are sure the water in Glencoe is safe for consumption,” says Fatih Sekercioglu, environmental health manager with the health unit.
“Issuing a boil water advisory is standard procedure when there has been a significant loss of pressure in a water system,” she said.
Instead, the health unit says to use boiled or bottled water.
When bathing infants and young children, parents should make sure they do not swallow any water, officials said.
Don’t use automatic ice cube machines and water dispensers from refrigerators and be sure to use the hot settings if using a dishwasher.
Washing clothes in laundry machines is safe.
While pressure in the system is being restored, officials say it will take a few days before testing can be done to make sure the water is once again safe.

Boil water advisory lifted in town of Clinton
UPDATE: The mayor’s office says the boil advisory in Clinton has been lifted.
***** CLINTON – Residents in Clinton are still under a water boil advisory after a line break Thursday.
After the advisory was issued, Gov.
John Bel Edwards called in the National Guard to hand out water and supplies.
Since 10 a.m. Friday people have been passing out water bottles to residents.
Officials say the boil water advisory will be in place until rescinded by the Town of Clinton.
It is recommended that all consumers disinfect their water before consuming, making ice, brushing teeth, or using it for food preparation or rinsing foods.
"These types of water problems are certainly an inconvenience, but they can also be life threatening in some cases due to the heat, which is why it is important for the public to heed all warnings and take the necessary safety precautions," said Edwards.
Bottles of water can be pick up at the Old Fire Station on Jackson Street.

Glencoe facing boil-water advisory after pipe break
GLENCOE – Three days without drinking water, and four bottles a day for your troubles.
Meanwhile, residents of the Southwest Middlesex village are being told they can go to the hockey arena or municipal office to pick up their two litres of water each day the water-boiling restriction is in place.
Wendy Magee, who hoped to pick up bottled water for her elderly neighbour Monday, was surprised to learn they’re only entitled to four 500-millilitre bottles daily.
Residents like Wendy are a bit concerned about timeline for lifting the boil water advisory.
It’s not about the cost of bottled, but the fact that a small community like #Glencoe only has so much bottled H2O.
I’ve seen people picking up cases of bottled water when other communities were under boil water advisories.” Magee fretted that her neighbour and other aging residents may forget about pots of boiling water on the stove.
If residents have a need for more water, the municipality may increase the number of bottles later in the week, Bellchamber-Glazier said.
If somebody says they need a case, we’ll give them a case,” Bellchamber-Glazier said.
The water main break, which was spotted Sunday night, triggered the advisory because of the low pressure and potential for contaminated groundwater to flow back into the system.
The health unit’s boil-water advisory will remain in place until officials test the water and rule it’s safe for consumption.
