Happy Valley-Goose Bay orders boil-water advisory

All residents and businesses in Happy Valley-Goose Bay who use Spring Gulch Water are under a boil-water advisory.
The town issued the urgent warning Saturday evening.
The statement, which appeared on the town’s website and Facebook page states: 5 Wing Goose Bay advises that heavy thunderstorms in the Lake Melville area caused flooding which in turn caused excess surface water from the sandy soil around Spring Gulch to flow into the water supply.
Residents are advised to bring water that you might ingest to a rigorous rolling boil for one minute.
For example, boil water used for drinking, brushing teeth, making juice from concentrate and powders and cooking.
Water to be used for washing fruits and vegetables, making infant formula and cereals, and making tea, coffee and other hot drinks should also be boiled.
The boil-water advisory will remain in effect until further notice.
The public will be notified once it is lifted, the town stated.

Boil-water advisory lifted in Monongahela area

A boil-water advisory has been lifted in Monongahela and Carroll Township four days after a major pipeline rupture interrupted service to about 1,300 homes and businesses.
Pennsylvania American Water announced early Friday that tests of the water Wednesday and Thursday showed the supply met standards set by the state Department of Environmental Protection, company spokesman Gary Lobaugh said.
Route 88 at Railroad Street was closed to traffic for several hours Monday after the line failure buckled those roads.
The break in the line resulted in a drop in water pressure and the company’s inability to refill a storage tank in Carroll.

UPDATE: Boil water advisory for Fifth Street area lifted

Update 4:55 p.m., July 23: A boil water advisory has been issued for some Lynchburg residents due to a broken water main valve on Polk Street.
Failure to follow this advisory could result in stomach or intestinal illness, according to a news release from water resources.
Lynchburg Department of Water Resources advises residents use boiled or bottled water for drinking, beverage and food preparation, and making ice until further notice.
Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms in the water.
Bring all tap water to a rolling boil, boil for one minute, and let cool before using, or use bottled water.
An alternative method of water purification is to use liquid household bleach containing a hypochlorite solution of a least 5.25 percent to disinfect water.
Public health officials recommend adding eight drops of bleach (1/4 teaspoon), to each gallon of water.
Water purification tablets may also be used by following the manufacturer’s instructions.
Water resources anticipates resolving the problem within 48 hours.
