According to a release, the company experienced a problem with the water on the Old Bonita Road 7/10s of miles north of the elevated tank.

"It is recommended that all consumers disinfect their water before consuming it (including fountain drinks), making ice, brushing teeth, or using it for food preparation or rinsing of foods by the following means: Boil water for one (1) full minute in a clean container.
The one minute starts after the water has been brought to a rolling boil.
(The flat taste can be eliminated by shaking water in a clean bottle or pouring it from one clean container to another.)

UPDATE: Water coming back online on West 12th and West Ridge after separate failures Featured

Chuck Samples/KVOE News Emporia Public Works Director Frank Abart expects water service will return to normal by early evening for folks affected by a 16-inch line break well before sunrise Saturday morning.
Newman Regional Health, St. Marks Lutheran Church and Angels Home Health Care have not confirmed whether they lost water service.
Abart says a 6-inch line failed there.
The situation on West 12th comes after several significant water main breaks on 12th from Prairie Street to the east over the last month, including: *Sunnyslope Street on June 20 *Garfield Street on July 11 *Grand Street on July 12 It also comes as the City Engineering Office plans to make service line connections for the scheduled work on a 20-inch line that has been underway for more than a month between Prairie and Grand.
4-8 am Saturday: Water main ruptures on 12th near Lincoln; multiple reports of low pressure across town The general water main construction zone on West 12th is, unfortunately, getting larger.
A 16-inch main failed on 12th near Lincoln Street early Saturday morning, with city crews alerted to the situation around 2:30 am.
Public Works Director Frank Abart tells KVOE News a valve failed at 12th and Lincoln, so water flow continues both above and below ground.
The failure comes as the city of Emporia continues a replacement project further west on 12th.
Crews started replacing a 20-inch main on 12th from Prairie to Grand.
Pavement restoration work also will begin at the 12th and Prairie intersection.

Boil water advisory issued for Surgoinsville Utility District

1 / 1 Surgoinsville Utility District SURGOINSVILLE — The Surgoinsville Utility District is reporting that due to Hill Tank going empty on July 19, 2018, we have reason to suspect that the water distribution to some customers of the Surgoinsville Utility District may be contaminated.
Until further notice; water customers who have experienced water outages to very low pressure in the middle of town in Surgoinsville are advised to boil water prior to using it for drinking or food preparation.
Reported outages occurred on the higher elevations of Ridge Street and those on the higher elevations served from South Zion Hill Road.
As a precaution, customers should take the following steps: 1.
Prior to boiling, the water should be strained through a clean cloth to remove sediment or floating material.
The water should then be heated to vigorous boil, and the rolling boil should be maintained for at least one minute to insure disinfection.
We are continuing to search for the problem and are purchasing water to try to fill the tank.
Once the problem has been solved, water gains and we conduct sampling, we will ask the State to lift the boil water alert.
We are expecting the boil alert to be in effect throughout the week but could be longer depending on sample results.
