Boil water advisory issued for Sugarloaf after their well suffers an electrical failure

SHASTA COUNTY, Calif. — A boil water advisory has been issued by Shasta County Public Works for customers who receive their water from the Sugarloaf water system after the well suffered an electrical failure.
According to officials, the Sugarloaf water system is served year-round by one groundwater well and that well has failed.
Supply from that well dropped significantly and more water was being used than the well could produce.
This led to an electrical failure and it is now not operational.
Officials said this means they have to start pumping surface water to meet the needs of the customers.
Federal and State regulations require surface water be properly filtered and disinfected but because the Sugarloaf’s surface water treatment plant is old and cannot reliably produce water that is safe to drink, residents must boil their drinking water.
Officials said they anticipate they will need to rely on the surface water source from June 27 to September 20, 2018.
The boil water advisory will remain in effect that entire time.

Weyburn Remains Under Boil Water Advisory

The City of Weyburn remains under a boil water advisory, which was originally issued by the city Saturday afternoon.
“From what I’ve been advised, it was that the pumps went down because of an electrical system failure, so then the water system depressurized,” explained Weyburn Mayor Marcel Roy.
“Once the water system depressurizes, it triggers a boil water advisory simply by government standards.” The alert called for residents of Weyburn to limit their water use to essential uses only.
Before using water for things such as drinking, cooking, brushing teeth, or others, it is recommended to boil water for one minute before use.
We will continue to provide updates as they become available.

Weyburn expects to have one distribution pump repaired at water treatment facility Monday

The city of Weyburn anticipates they will have one of the two failed distribution pumps at the water treatment plant up and running by the end of Monday.
A precautionary boil water advisory is in effect for the time being, and has been since Saturday afternoon.
Weyburn’s Director of Engineering, Nader Keshta said the boil water advisory will remain in effect until both pumps have been repaired.
“It could be lifted once one has been restored, however we are in favour of fixing both pumps first,” Keshta said.
“The water levels have to stay lowered anyway just to get the pump out of the well, it helps us working with both pumps off, making us able to fix them more quickly than if we reascended the boil water advisory.
The city of Weyburn is currently in the process of building a new water treatment facility, Keshta said they hope to have it commissioned by spring 2019.
The current facilities best days are well behind it.
“The age of the infrastructure is the issue,” Keshta said.
” The pumps at the water treatment plant are 30-years-old and near the end of its life cycle.

Boil water order remains in Laughlin as water tests continue

LAUGHLIN, Nev. (AP) — Initial tests show samples of drinking water in Laughlin are meeting water-quality standards but officials want to conduct more tests before lifting an boil-water advisory that’s been in place since a water main break Saturday.
Big Bend Water District spokesman Bronson Mack said the advisory will remain in place Monday for Laughlin’s Casino Drive Corridor lined with hotel-casinos in the unincorporated town 90 minutes south of Las Vegas.
The broken pipe was repaired Saturday night.
Mack says there was no indication there was any contamination of the water but the water boil advisory was issued because a portion of supply lost all water pressure.
It’s unclear what caused the leak.
Mack said bottled water has been made available to the resorts and there’s additional bottled water available at the Laughlin Regional Justice Center.
