BEAVER COUNTY, Pa – The water supply feeding the Freedom Area School District has immediately been placed under a boil water notice, the district announced.

The district was notified that the Harvey Run Water Supply System was placed under the Boiled Water Notice.

All homes, businesses, and the Freedom Area School District campus that receives water from the supply system fall under the advisory.

According to a DEP official, the issue is affecting nearly half of New Sewickley Township.

In a press release, the district said it immediately discontinued water consumption after receiving the notice.

Friday,  officials took normal quarterly samples and tested the water.  The results were positive for e.coli and coliform bacteria.
On Monday, new samples were collected to repeat the test. Two of three tests came back positive.
There are about 180 to 200 customers who will be impacted.

The water authority will be chlorinating and flushing the system today and further testing will be done over the next several days until the situation is rectified, according the school district.

The advisory will be in effect until there are two straight days of tests without positive results.
