Initial tests indicate Dietrich water is safe
DIETRICH — Dietrich Mayor Don Heike said he’s breathing a little easier Sunday after initial testing shows that Dietrich’s water supply is safe to drink.
The man, 62-year-old Tom Young, had been fired from his job earlier this month.
It was unclear Sunday why some worried that Young may have tampered with the well.
Lincoln County Disaster Service Manager Payson Reese said that due to Memorial Day weekend, water testing has taken longer than normal.
He said it could be Tuesday morning when a final determination is made on the water supply’s safety.
Until the all-clear is given, potable water will be provided at the city’s fire station.
Heike said the town’s residents have taken the situation well.
“There have been a couple of people who called who didn’t get the notice,” he said.
The Southern Idaho Regional Communications Center, school district and Boy Scouts helped warn residents, the mayor said.
Young had been scheduled to appear in court on the same day he was found dead.
