Kalamazoo Eastwood neighborhood advised to boil tap water

KALAMAZOO, MI– A precautionary boil water advisory has been issued for people living in Sunnyside Apartments and on portions of Mulhearn Avenue, Baker Drive and Upland Drive, ifollowing a water main break on Mulhearn Avenue that could allow contaminant to enter the water supply.

The City of Kalamazoo Department of Public Services responded to the water main break and issued the precautionary boil water advisory in cooperation with the Kalamazoo County Health and Community Services Department, according to a news release from the city.

Municipal water customers in the affected area may boil their tap water for 2 minutes prior to use for drinking.

The affected area is:

Mulhearn Avenue – North side and south side of street between Baker Drive to the west and Nazareth Road to the east;

Baker Drive – West side and east side of street between Mulhearn Avenue to the north and Miami Avenue to the south;

Upland Drive – West side and east side of street from the northernmost end to Gertude Street to the south, including Sunnyside Apartments.

This advisory is precautionary only; there have not been any confirmed tests showing bacteria present in the water main at the location of the break.

It is expected that the advisory will be lifted within 72 hours after testing is completed.

No special precautionary measures are necessary for water used for bathing or other household activities, health officials said.
