OKMULGEE, Oklahoma –

The City of Okmulgee is feeling the effects of a widespread water outage after a water line break. The city is under a precautionary boil order until further notice as crews work to fix the 14-inch break in a line near the water station.

Emergency Management Director Tim Craighton said he understands most if not all of the city is without water.

Some areas have a little water, but extremely low pressure.

Emergency crews are busy filling fire truck tankers to be prepared in case of any fires, Craighton said. The city is holding a meeting at 8 a.m. to discuss taking action in the water outage.

Okmulgee Public Schools is closed Tuesday due to the city water line break. Dunbar Elementary, Okmulgee Primary, Junior High and High School are closed, administrators said.

The water line break is also shutting down the OSU Institute of Technology and Green Country Technology Center. None of the campuses has a water source as crews work to repair the break.

Okmulgee Police Chief Joe Prentiss confirmed the city has a water outage affecting a large part of the town. The city is taking action to repair the break, but they don’t have a time estimate so far on when water will be restored.
