Precautionary boil water advisory issued after water main break in Kalamazoo

KALAMAZOO, Mich. — The City of Kalamazoo responded to a water main break on Virginia Avenue, south of Chandler Avenue, north of Troy Avenue, that has resulted in a temporary loss of pressure and a temporary interruption of water service.
A precautionary boil water advisory has been issued in cooperation with the Kalamazoo County Health and Community Services Department for all water intended for drinking or ingestion or any consumptive uses within the affected area of Virginia Avenue – Chandler Avenue to the north, Mt.
Olivet Road to the south, including Spring Valley Crossing Apartments.
The city said the advisory is precautionary only; there have not been any confirmed tests showing bacterial present in the water main at the location of the infrastructure repair.
Initial sampling results will be available within 24 hours of its collection and the final set within 48 hours.
It is expected that the advisory will be lifted by December 24.
