UPDATE: Boil water advisory for Lemon Island lifted

Okatie, S.C. — (WJCL) – UPDATE: The boil water advisory for Lemon Island has been lifted.
Original story below: Beaufort-Jasper Water and Sewer Authority and South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control are advising residents of Lemon Island to boil their water.
The advisory is being issued because of a brief overnight power failure at the high service pumps.
Power and pressure have been restored.
The Water and Sewer Authority says it will retrieve samples of the drinking water, in order to ensure that no harmful bacteria are present.
Upon confirmation that the water is safe, the advisory will be lifted.
Residents and businesses in the affected area are urged to use boiled or bottled water for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, preparing food and giving to pets until further notice.
Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms that may be present in the water.
The water is safe for bathing and doing laundry.
