UPDATE: Crews repairing large water main breaks in Ashland; traffic to be rerouted around one

ASHLAND, Ky. (WSAZ) — UPDATE 1/2/18 @ 6:50 p.m. As temperatures continue to drop, many neighbors in Ashland are becoming more concerned with city water lines breaking than they are with pipes in their homes freezing.
Traffic around the 13th Street break will be altered starting Wednesday morning as crews continue to fix the break.
This is expected to last at least 24 hours, or until the line is repaired.
Cunningham says she expects breaks when temperatures get so low, which is why she keeps back-up water.
City crews say they expect it, too, and will see it again when temperatures go back up, just like in August 2017 when a major break cut off water to thousands.
More issues were reported Tuesday night, including a water main break on 29th Street between Nolte Street and Robin Lynn Drive.
The repair is expected to be completed by mid-morning Wednesday.
King says there are plans to have consulting firm BlueWater Group come in to do a study on the city’s infrastructure and find key areas that need to have lines replaced.
