Water main break triggers new boil advisory for this town

Iowa DNR officials said a water main break in the city of Callender has triggered a drinking water boil advisory.

The break happened during work to install storm sewers and left the city without water.

After water is restored, the boil advisory will be in place for a couple days until tests show the water is free of bacterial contamination.

Water should be boiled and allowed to cool before using for drinking and cooking or bottled water should be used.

General guidelines on ways to lessen the risk of infection by microbes are available from the EPA Safe Drinking Water Hotline at 1-800-426-4791.
