Stage One drought restrictions kick in

A month after lifting the city’s drought restrictions, Corpus Christi has had to move into Stage One restrictions after water levels in two local reservoirs dropped.
Restaurants are asked to serve water only when requested by customers.
Hand watering and drip irrigation are allowed at any time.
Residents may use water to maintain building foundations, which can crack during dry seasons.
The new drought contingency plan went into effect June 6 after a decision by the City Council on May 30.
Under the old plan, the city was continually in Stage One restrictions.
Stage Two goes into effect if the reservoirs reach less than 40 percent.
Stage Two requires customers to comply with restrictions that are only voluntary under Stage One.
Stage One also kicks in if Lake Texana drops below 40 percent.
The water supplied from Lake Texana through the Mary Rhodes pipeline that opened in October of last year was not accounted for in the city’s old plan, City Manager Margie Rose explained at a news conference in June.
