Drought persists despite recent rainfall

Drought persists despite recent rainfall.
Centerville received a little more than 1.5 inches of rain since the last drought monitor report.
But that isn’t enough to bust a drought that is now going on three months.
Northwest Iowa got some relief this week.
In all, 48.15 percent is in some sort of drought, down from 55.69 percent last week.
So far for the month, rain measured at Centerville Airport has been roughly the normal amount for the month of August.
But the area remains around 3.5 inches below the normal rain amount this year.
Even as Harvey has broken rainfall records in Texas and along the southern coast, that rain isn’t expected to make its way north.
