Drought taking hold in parts of southern Illinois
.
WSIL — Storms early in the week brought heavy rain to parts of southern Illinois, but others in desperate need for rain, missed out.
"All we’re really seeing is dust bowls," said Joseph McCann, owner of Joe’s Lawn Care and Snow Removal.
For guys like McCann, dry weather can mean a drop off in business and put routine mowings on hold.
"I’ve already had four people on today’s list, say just skip our yard this week because it just hasn’t grown and it’s brown as can be," explained McCann.
"Rain has been very spotty across southern Illinois and across Williamson County," said Southern FS crop specialist Aaron Henry.
Parts of southern Illinois are doing quite well on rain. Williamson County corn is in good shape according to Henry, but other areas are in desperate need of rain to finish off the growing season.
"Pastures are hurting. "Beans like these in the background which are still really green, they need rain really bad to retain seed size."
