Hot and humid stretch of weather expected to continue in Omaha area, but it could be worse

Hot and humid stretch of weather expected to continue in Omaha area, but it could be worse.
A mid-summer’s heat wave has gripped the region, with no significant relief in sight.
Despite being short on moisture, Omaha and southeastern Nebraska have escaped the drought and near-drought conditions that have gripped most of the rest of the state, according to the U.S. Drought Monitor.
“Typical July weather,” said Bryon Miller, meteorologist with the National Weather Service.
Miller said the coming week brings a few, slight chances for rain, with the first coming Monday night, and then again later in the week.
Storms moving through the area could cool things off, but could also provide the moisture that would spike humidity, Miller said.
If temperatures don’t moderate, the upcoming week could be the hottest stretch of weather of the year, according to KMTV.
“We know July is usually going to be hot, and this year is no exception,” Pydynowski said.
“Drink lots of fluids and stay out of sun if you can.” Omaha is about 2.4 inches short on rain for the summer, according to the weather service.
The U.S. Drought Monitor calculates that about 65 percent of Nebraska and 48 percent of Iowa is in near drought to moderate drought.
