She was among a group of people loading cases of water that had accumulated in the bar over the week into a U-Haul headed for Flint, Michigan.
They are collecting water for residents still affected by the four-year-old crisis.
‘A crisis in confidence’ as well The water crisis in Flint began in 2014 when the city’s water supply became contaminated with lead after its water source was switched from Lake Huron and the Detroit River to the Flint River.
Michigan officials say the water system hasn’t had levels of lead exceeding the federal limit for nearly two years.
"But what we are dealing with is a crisis in confidence and trust that the water we are drinking is safe."
‘Directly into the hands of the people that need it’ As employees of Gotham and other Marion residents picked up cases of water on Monday, Wilson discussed where the water would go.
She said the water would be dropped off at places like the Greater Holy Temple and the Asbury United Methodist Church, both in Flint.
Thousands that still need water Gaskin said that not all of the houses have clean drinking water at this point.
A number of residents in the city still rely on donations of bottled water and filters.
"We still have thousands of people that don’t have confidence in that system," Gaskin said.
