SDSU Extension holds drought workshops across the state.
The SDSU Extension office wants to make sure everyone is staying informed by holding workshops in Faith, Lemmon, Pierre and Chamberlain over the past few days.
Finding ways to help out farmers and ranchers during the drought is a huge priority for Extension staff.
They may not be able to make the sky send rain or change the markets, but they have figured out some clever ideas and options for people before everyone makes their game plan to survive over the next few weeks and months.
"Corn and corn by-products cost almost the same per pound as hay does, only with a lot more energy.
Farmers and ranchers are feeling a little down about the conditions.
Many are turning to selling quite a few head of cattle from their herds — looking at the older ones first.
It’s going to take quite a bit of rain to turn all of this brown into green, but as hard as it may be, keeping a positive attitude is a must.
Taking care of yourself mentally and physically and not letting the stress eat you up are important factors in keeping a sane mind during the drought.
